What is verbatim reporting?
Verbatim reporting is the process of reporting dialogue word for word, live (in person, or by video or teleconference). In a university environment, this is sometimes referred to as CART (communication access realtime) reporting; in a non-university setting, this is referred to as realtime reporting. Skilled professionals, trained in high speed stenography (shorthand), use computer technology to document spoken words. Within just a few seconds, a written record can be read on a screen, be it a laptop or data projector. How does verbatim reporting work? Anne attends your event (hearing, meeting, seminar, conference, research focus group), at the time that it is held, with her stenograph machine, to write the dialogue live. The machine can be linked to a laptop, to translate shorthand symbols to text, and displayed onscreen as a transcript within seconds. Anne supplies her own equipment, reports the discussion live on location and edits the file at her office in Brisbane. Anne tailors your project to your needs and offers alternatives to a full transcript, such as abstracts, summaries, conclusions, recommendations, action points and outcomes, all competitively priced, and with a rapid turnaround. Anne will help keep your project moving and on track. |

Advantages of a verbatim reporter, compared with audio equipment or voice recognition programs
Anne does not transcribe from sound recordings: the skill and expertise of a verbatim reporter outweigh the technology of audio equipment and voice recognition programs. |
